The next day’s route was going to take us West from Pueblo through a variety of road sending in Ouray, CO. Reviewing the weather reports, in the morning, along this route they showed lots of rain, sleet and perhaps snow not to mention cold temperatures. After some discussions and looking at radar predictions it was decided to turn North to Denver and then West on I-70 and drop down to Ouray somewhere near Grand Junction.
We headed north on I-25 to Denver and then around to the west on 470. Coming up to the junction with I-70, Andy felt a rough vibration from the rear of his 2015 K1600GT. Engaging the clutch made no difference but it was speed dependent. Pulling into the chain-up area on I-70,we all stopped. It was immediately obvious that Andy’s drive shaft had failed, damaging the drive shaft’s rear u-joint and the swing arm. The bike was locked solid!
After a call to Foothills Motorcycle in Denver, a rescue van arrived and with Damian’s superhuman help we lifted the bike up, wheel barrow style, and rolled it up the ramp on the front tire into the van. Andy said good bye to the group and away we went in opposite directions.
