We had a good ride from the Switzerland Inn to The Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge, says Damian.
After we arrived and settled into our cabins, we went into the lodge to meet and greet the K1600 and other model BMW riders. I straight away noticed the Australian and American flags pinned up and united. I had a great time meeting all the US riders.
I met Jim and Andy for the first time at the TTD and we shared a few drinks (Andy may have shared a bit more than Jim). It’s a great place to hold a group function. The setting, amongst the oak trees and nice stream running through the grounds with foot bridge crossings, gave a nice relaxed atmosphere. The sleeping facilities, bathrooms, showers etc. were all clean and nicely kept.
We also met with Jim's brother Steve, and Tom Ness who we would ride with later across America.
The 4 days spent at The Ironhorse Motorcycle Lodge gave us access to some great riding, which Brendan and I did with different groups and riders each day. On one of the days it was raining and a few guys decided to stay at the lodge, Brendan and I snuck out with Chris from the Switzerland Inn Group and two other Guys we hadn’t ridden with (JJ and Big Rick). We rode the Tail of The Dragon, which had no traffic at all, which I’m told is rare. It was a great run, and no rain.
Then Cherohala Skyway (my favorite) again no traffic and a fantastic ride, we did some other rides in the loop and stopped at Topoco Tavern for a late lunch so it was an awesome day of riding. On Friday and Saturday evenings, at the lodge, there was a lot of activities going on like a 50/50 raffle and door prizes along with a special introduction of us and our story along with gifts for Brendan and me to help remember this experience.
A great time was had by all.
