Chapter 3: The history of the TTD

The Annual BMW Sports Touring Event at the Tail of the Dragon in Robbinsville, NC staying at the Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge was the idea of Gary Culbertson, MD & Brett Salmon.

The K1600 forum riders who enjoy the unique sport of Appalachian Mountain riding but do not camp combine two Riding groups, obtained a BMW Motorrad Sponsor and with the assistance of the K1600 Forum organized the BMW’s Tame the Tail of the Dragon (TTD).

Originally an event where most of the bikes were primarily BMW K1600s, it is now a more general BMW rider event.

The TTD is primarily a riding event of the amazing roads in the area. TTD participants have been key in making this a great BMW Event include: Kevin & Stephanie Rasmussen, KJ & Debbie Miller, Duane & Carolyn Thornton, Matt Krok, Jim & Amy Ranson, Andy Morley, Len Scafani, etc.

Our Moto is “Zero to Vacation in Six Seconds.”

Riders from as far away as California, Canada, and now Australia enjoy the annual TTD during the first weekend in May
